Bunny Troubles

So in the past week it’s become exceedingly clear that there are some things that I cannot paint even though I might want to. Or at least that’s how it feels.  After declaring that I was going to become more dedicated to the life of a studio artist, I’ve already hit a wall.

I started a painting on Monday this week.

Started.

On Tuesday, I did some more work on it.

Continued

On Wednesday, I completely and utterly screwed it up.

bunny of doom.

Yep. A bunny. I like bunnies. I like all things cute. I had a whole bunch of images of wild rabbits, frolicking here and there, sneaking around in fields of grass. I wanted to paint a bunny. I shouldn’t have.

bunny :(

Everyone has some limit to their skills, and it would seem that bunnies are my limit.

What now?  It’s Thursday and I’ve taken the day off. I caught up with a friend I hadn’t seen in ages, which was worthwhile. I may have even found an awesome job. And I can relax for the rest of the afternoon and evening.  Except not really, because I don’t know what to do about this painting. I feel like it’s ruined, and I don’t know what to do. The thought of facing it makes me feel a little ill. I’m angry and sad at that silly bunny.

Does anyone have any tips? Thoughts, advice, critique?

I kinda like the bunny… it looks a bit like he wandered on in and possibly shouldn’t be there but he liked it and decided to stay…

  2. I don’t know about the bunny but I do still love the swirly dripping background.

The bunny has now gone, I scrubbed at it a bit then painted over it. I’m not sure about the work at all anymore. Might be time to start something new instead.

  3. if by ‘screwing it up’ you mean ‘continuing in the theme of awesome’! Really, I like it.

Thanks! The bunny is no longer on the painting, in fact I’m going to take this canvas in a completely new direction – but hopefully it will be cool when done!

I gots a new job by the way, as assistant manager of Smiggle in St Lukes when it opens. In the meantime i’m hopping between their newmarket and albany stores till it opens, which is interesting. You’d like Smiggle actually, its a very cute store full of very cute things.

Just google-image bunnies and practice drawing them! Try some of the cute sites too, they have lots of cute bunnies 8D
Quick tip, they don’t have the button nose like that, they just have nostrils rather than the spot – see here you gave him a dog nose lol.

Thanks for the comment! I actually was using images of real live bunnies as reference so I’m not too sure why it turned out so bad…I wasn’t aiming for super realism but I wanted it to look better. Oh well. This painting pretty much no longer exists, I covered the canvas in floral fabric.
